Maggie + Felipe | New Hampshire Family Farm Engagement

Maggie + Felipe| New Hampshire Family Farm Engagement

Maggie and Felipe met at the beach in Cape Cod. It was truly love at first sight. Felipe knew Maggie was the one. He lives in Chile South America, and was vacationing in Massachusetts when him and Maggie crossed paths. They spent hours talking and getting to know eachother that day at the beach, while their friends watched from a far. Soon Felipe had to fly back to his home in Chile and leave Maggie behind. But he could not bare not seeing her again and so he asked her to be his girlfriend as he was about to get on the plane. She said yes. Next thing you know Maggie moved to Chile and began teaching students there. After a few years the two decided to marry and have their wedding in Maggies hometown of New Hampton NH on the family farm she grew up on.

3 Things you didn’t know about posing | Engagement session | Massachusetts Photographer

posing naturally for engagement photos

Posing can be tough if you are not used to being in front of the camera. A common concern for many people and the question that I get the most is how do I look natural in front of the camera? This is actually a very common concern. Whenever you are in front of a camera you get nervous and awkward and aren’t really sure how to stand or where to put your hands. This is why I have come up with a method that works and I teach it to my clients to help them be comfortable in front of the camera and pose very natural. Honestly it’s like not even posing at all.

Step one. The first thing I do is pick a background. You always want to have a good background whether you’re out in nature or whether you’re taking a picture at home of your kids or a picture out in the city with friends you always want to pick the background first. So in order to pick the background you always want to make sure that there’s no distracting objects in the background or something that just doesn’t fit with the picture. The next thing you want to do is take a sample shots with your phone that will in sure that you know where you’re going to stand and that if it’s the vision that you have. It helps if you’re with someone and they stand in the place where you’re going to be standing may be with them or alone.

massachusetts wedding photographer teranie tirado

Step two. So maybe you have someone taking the picture for you and you are good to go. When I don’t, I ask a random stranger to take a picture of me or my family when I’m out somewhere and don’t have a tripod and I’m just simply using my phone. Wherever I am someone is always willing to just snap a quick picture of me. This is why its so important to have a game plan when you are getting ready for a photo. You don’t want to over extend the courtesy someone has given you by asking for more photos.

massachusetts wedding photographer teranie tirado

Step three. What I’ve learned to do is have go to poses that I can transition from so that I am moving in the place that I’m standing and this really makes a really huge difference in making photos look as natural as possible. So whenever you have to take a picture of yourself you never want to stand there stiff as a board, just staring at the camera. The best thing to do is get into the position that you’re thinking of and then move out of that position and move into a different one and keep moving around shifting from left to right front to back rotating and whoever snapping a ton of pictures of you is bound to get a good one and that you’ll fall in love with. The key is to keep moving but staying with the background.

massachusetts wedding photographer teranie tirado

OK just because you subscribed to my blog, I’m going to give you two bonus tips for posing. 1. You want to take the picture as soon as possible so you want to tell the person that’s napping those pictures for you to take it as soon as you get to the spot you’re going to be taking the picture that you don’t want to stand there more than a few minutes because you will get stiff and you will settle into a pose and it just won’t work. For example when I’m taking pictures of my kids I asked them to walk to a certain spot and is soon as they turn around and look at me I snap the picture. 2. If I want them to smile genuinely I simply crack a joke and snap a picture it gets the best genuine smiles. This works with my clients as well. Sometimes all you need to do is bust out with a joke and it gets everyone smiling genuinely and natural.

So next time you’re out and about and you need a picture taken use these tips it will make it so much easier on you the person posing and the person taking the picture.

Thank you guys for reading my blog I hope that was helpful for you if there’s anything that you want me to blog about please post in the comments. And if you have any posing tips that you would love to share I’d love to read them below.

Boston Commons Engagement Session | Boston, MA | Boston Wedding Photograher

This weekend was lovely with these two love birds. Their Boston engagement session was epic. I can’t decide what I loved more the willow trees, the ducks, the historical bridge, the gazebo monument, or the carousel. Silvestre and Cindy are blessed to have found love. I’m counting the days until I photograph their wedding. Fun fact, do you know this groom to be custom designed his bride to be engagement ring. How romantic!

Old Stone Church Engagement Session | West Boylston ,MA | Wedding Photographer

They met in high school and now years later life brought them back together. Now, These two love birds are getting married in Vermont next year. Their sunrise session in West Boylston, MA was beyond dreamy. The fog lingering everywhere as the sun came up forming sun rays and the perfect golden glow. The fall foliage was at its peak here in New England. Which served as a perfect background for their engagement session.

Jill + Steven | Victorian Winter Themed | Engagement Session | Moore State Park

Once upon a time…
There was a teenager named Steven, who was known for getting Artist of the Year every year without fail. He was so confident in his skills of drawing monsters and animals that he had little interest in announcing his abilities to his new high school, Bay Path.
Well one fateful day Senior Superlatives rolled around for his senior year at Bay Path. There was hustle and bustle about who is the best looking, who is the most likely to succeed, sure Steven was a shoe-in for Artist of the Year! He was not only talented but he was genuinely a nice guy. What could possibly go wrong?
“Artist of the Year, Jillian Light”
“Whose this Jillian Light girl stealing my thunder!?” Steven asked Josh Hoppenbrower (aka Hoppy). Hoppy looked up and pointed her out.
Steven stood up without hesitation and sauntered over to this “Jillian Light” girl with a brand new self confidence that he had never experienced before.
“You’re that Jillian Light girl that won Artist of the year, right?” He stated as he sat down besides her.
A brief competitive conversation bounced between the two playfully until Jillian said, “Alright, how about you bring your art in and I’ll truthfully tell you if you’re better than me or not.” “Alright! Sounds like a deal. I’ll bring my work in tomorrow.”
The following day Steven sprang from the bus with his portfolio in hand and made a bee line to Jillians locker.
Impressed and a bit intimidated (not that she would admit to it) with a real portfolio Jillian took the large envelope full of art and thumbed through it.
“Take it and look at it for the day and I’ll be back here before schools over.” Steven found himself saying to his own shock. Never had he trusted anyone with something so personal and irreplaceable as that portfolio.
“I will…thanks.” Jillian replied. She knew the trust that it took to give a stranger all of those hours of your work to someone that you just met, and it hit her heart in a place only artists know.
At the end of the day she returned his portfolio to him near her locker with a gentle smile.
“You’re honestly better than me,” she started “I’m just more popular than you.”
It was a quick recovery before she would admit her true feelings. He was something special and she knew that.
After that day the two of them were inseparable and quickly became good friends for a few years… how they became a couple later, well that’s a different story for another time. But all that I will end this with is that their friendship pulled them through each and every time. And that’s all any fairy tale ending will ask for.
“Well presenting different flowers, even different color roses to a woman means different things.
For example, White is for purity, Red is for love, Black is for mourning, Yellow is for friendship…” etc. -Jillian
” Then our rose would be a yellow rose with red tips.” – Steve
“Why is that?” -Jillian
“Because we had a friendship that grew into love.” -Steven
